Welcome

Welcome to the Kaldan National Library. This site will go into detail of the government managed national library. This library will managed by the Ministry of Education, but will otherwise act as its own entity. There will need to be at least one library in every county, and preferably more than 1. A major city may have a dozen or more, where as rural counties will likely just have one. The Kaldan National Library will do more than provide a means of borrowing books. Also, CDs and DVDs can also be lent out. In addition to borrowing physical books, one would be able to borrow .klib based ebooks from the library without even having to go to a branch.

The national library will also offer computer stations to where they can use the system to browse the internet, and use various applications as installed by Kal-OS. Some applications will not be available, but at the very least – an office suite will be made available. This will allow a patron to use the computer to do things like create resumés and other important documents. Assuming that there is a wait list, there will be a 15 minute time limit for the customer to use the provided computers. However, if a patron has their own notebook PC, they will be able to connect to the Wifi Network for free, and be able to print to the library’s printer for a 25¢ fee. This will cover for the cost of the paper, toner, and wear on the printer.

The library will also seek to provide assistance options for patrons. Such options might include computer classes to where they can learn how to use the Kal-OS based computers. There will also be crafts, and book clubs made available. The idea is to make the library a staple in the community rather than just a place to borrow media.

Librarians, and library technicians will be available to help any patron. This will also include the search capabilities for the libraries’ resources. With it being the national library, one will be able to borrow physical media within the county. While national lending will be nice, it will be a logistical nightmare. All physical books will also have eBooks available for lending – one just needs a supported eBook reader. The patron will be able to use the media for the set time, and return it to any national library.
