Most people will have a home internet connection since there will be an affordable plan. However, there could be a couple of reasons why a patron will wish to use the library’s network connection. In which case, they will bring their own device to log into the network and therefore – internet. The patron must have a library account in order to use the library’s network.
One of the reasons why a patron might wish to use the library for connectivity is because the patron does not have a printer at home. A print is 25ยข per page, and this could add up quickly. However, with NSC requirements – all new printers must be ink-tank or laser printers which are more expensive than a cartridge inkjet printer. If the patron will need to use the printer regularly, they may want to consider saving for their own printer.
The second reason is the patron is homeless. If they need to look for work, or a place to live, then the best way to do that will be use the internet. Since the patron has no home, they don’t have home internet services. They will come to library, login, and do their work. As with all patrons, the homeless person will need to pay for any prints, but at least the printer is there for them.
